On December 16, 2023, the Brothers of Lambda Omicron Chapter, an unincorporated affliation of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, will be hosting their 75th anniversary Starlight Formal Ball that will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles Culver City, where female undergraduate students will be awarded scholarships for their talents, work ethic, and past efforts to contribute to the well-being of the community. Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass and guests, will be in attendance for the scholarship affair.
"I am very humbled and honored to serve as the chairman for Lambda Omicron's 2023 Starlight Formal Ball," stated Bro. Keith Youngblood. "As we embark on the return of a historical event celebrating 75 years in existence, it's also a opportunity to celebrate and share the historical contributions the men of Lambda Omicron have made locally and nationally alongside the upcoming young leaders of Los Angeles and the world. It will take our village/community to change the world, as we continue to work together as one united force promoting Love and Peace."
Dating back to 1948, the Starlight Formal Ball is one of Lambda Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated's flagship events, previously being featured in Jet Magazine, one of the largest African American magazines, as well as local publications and newspapers. The event promotes community service and awareness among the communities that Lambda Omicron serves. In addition, the chapter raises funds to present scholarship awards to young aspiring female undergraduate student, pursuring a Bachelors Degree.
"I'd be remissed if I did not express just how exciting it will be to have Mayor Karen Bass and her guest as we honor both her as our city's first female Mayor, as well as, allow our young female scholars to have the opportuinty to meet Mayor Bass face to face," said Bro. Rome Mubarak, Basileus (President) of Lambda Omicron. "Many of our candidates of our 'Queen's Court' are in the behavioral sciences field of study, as well as, urban development and planning at various colleges and universities throughout the country. This will really be a once in a lifetime opportunities for those young ladies to see themselves through Mayor Bass, along with her academic and professional experiences."
Chartered on December 16, 1946, this will serve as Lambda Omicron's 75th anniversary formal ball after a few years off during the pandemic. This will allow the community to come celebrate scholarship, and the chapter's rich history and legacy, as we relive the past, embrace the present, and look forward to the future.
